Back in 2013, the ECA Group UAV IT180 has been used for shooting the 6th edition of the Armada. Created in 1989, this event gathers for ten days numerous outstanding sailing ships and the most modern warships from all over the world.
Thanks to the UAV IT180 and its capacity to fly very close to the vessels, spectators had the chance to see the Armada from a brand new viewpoint. Up to then, only the ships berthed on Rouen quays could be seen. With the aerial filming, for the 6th edition, for the first time ships sailing on the Seine River were to be seen perfectly.
The videos taken by the UAV were broadcasted and displayed in real time on the giant screens. At that time, it was a world premiere!
For the big picture, the production company also used a helicopter. It was the first time a helicopter and a drone were flying in the same area.
In fact, the IT180 realized many premieres: along the Armada, the UAV IT180 also shot several football games. Today, drones are increasingly used for this purpose and also for the reinforcement of surveillance. For example, Paris is looking for drones to secure the EURO 2016 this summer.
