The "Marcantonio Colonna" Nautical Institute has been established in Rome in 1937, and since them has trained skilled Navigation Officer Cadets. With the change in training equipment and the arrival of the very first type of simulation systems, the Italian Nautical Institute has decided to use simulators as part of the training plan. In the 80’s "Marcantonio Colonna" has bought its first Sindel Simulation System: a radar stimulator. Since then, this long-term customer has developed its training systems adopting newer ECA Group solutions, in order to give to its students modern state of the art training tools, such as radar simulators, navigation simulator classrooms and bridge simulators.

The new shiphandling simulator is based on the existing system (upgraded to the last Mistral 4000 generation) integrated with new features like AIS, GMDSS radio station, ECDIS and new external view theatre of about 120° HFV.

With the last upgrade, the Nautical Institute in Rome can count on the newest release of ECA Group software for navigation training, called MISTRAL 4000. The new software has been installed in a simulation system, which is integrating features like AIS, GMDSS radio station, ECDIS and new external view theatre of 120° field of view.

The system has also received an upgrade, showing the capability of ECA Group to create scalable and flexible simulators. The last upgrade just tested is the integration of a real type approved ECDIS, integrated in the student station network. The new system will grant to the school to perform IMO Courses on ECDIS (IMO model course 1.27) and give to its trainees IMO approved ECDIS certification.

The new system is compliant with the requirements for the professional STCW courses, allowing the students to follow a complete training path from the basic knowledge of the navigation up to the advanced professional training.
