Since 2011, Muquans has strengthened Exail (formerly iXblue) capabilities in industry-grade quantum sensors based on laser cooled atoms and other metrology solutions. All Muquans technologies, products and teams are now fully intergrated into Exail.

Muquans was founded in 2011 in the very footsteps of Alain Aspect, Nobel Prize of Physics 2022, by 3 of his former students and colleagues:

Muquans developed a unique expertise to bring quantum technologies to an appropriate level of technological maturity, and exploit their potential for operational use in various fields of applications. Muquans was developed as a spin-off from Observatoire de Paris (LTE lab, formerly SYRTE) and Institut d’Optique (LP2N lab) in France, where the core of the technology had been developed for more than 15 years of academic research.
Since its creation, Muquans has developed tight connections with the academic world, as well as a unique expertise to bring the most sophisticated concepts to the Technology Readiness Level required for an operational exploitation.
With such unique scientific and technological know-how, Muquans was the first company in the world to exploit laser-cooled quantum manipulation techniques on an industrial scale.
With the acquisition of Muquans (and Kylia) in 2021, Exail further strengthened its photonics strategic axis with a complete range of breakthrough technologies, including a quantum gravimeter, frequency transfer systems over fiber, and very high performance laser systems.
By integrating Muquans and Kylia, Exail is industrializing the production of high-performance laser systems, quantum instruments, and metrology tools to solidify its position as a European leader in photonics and quantum technologies. Operating from the heart of the New Aquitaine optics ecosystem, Exail creates unique technical synergies that bridge the gap between academic research and field-ready, industry-grade solutions. This evolution ensures global continuity for the Absolute Quantum Gravimeter (AQG) community and the REFIMEVE network, delivering robust instrumentation engineered for precise time and frequency metrology in the world’s most extreme environments—from Antarctica to the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna.
