Amphibious assault operations expose forces to a narrow window of vulnerability: the transition from the mother ship to the shore. It is precisely during this phase — the swim phase, the surf zone, the first metres ashore — that GNSS jamming and spoofing threats are most likely to be activated by an adversary.

Loss of navigation during this window translates directly into formation incoherence, degraded shore approach timing, and unavailability of fire control. In an assault context, these effects cannot be recovered.

Traditional navigation systems are designed to operate in either a marine or a terrestrial environment. Deploying them in an amphibious context requires reconfiguration at the point of transition — creating a navigation data gap precisely where continuity is most critical.

Partially coupled multi-system solutions do not eliminate this problem: they displace it. When GNSS signals are denied and reconfiguration has not been completed, forces operate without reliable navigation in a contact zone.
