Exail's MIDS: a legacy of innovation in Mine Identification and Disposal
For over four decades, Exail has specialized in the design and production of Mine Identification and Disposal Systems (MIDS). The genesis of Exail's MIDS technology dates back to the early 1970s with the development of the first underwater wire-guided mine identification and destruction robot known as PAP (Self-Propelled Fish). Over the years, Exail's MIDS systems have been adopted by more than 25 navies worldwide, with thousands of units deployed for mine clearance operations at sea.
Sea mines, strategically deployed to target ships and submarines, present a multifaceted threat to the global maritime trade routes. Their clandestine presence poses an ongoing risk to vessels transporting essential goods, energy resources, and commodities across the seas. These insidious devices, often remaining undetected long after deployment, have the potential to disrupt critical shipping lanes, leading to substantial economic losses and supply chain disruptions.
Advanced systems for mine identification and neutralization
With the evolution of unmanned technologies, Exail offers today the most advanced MIDS systems including underwater Remotely OperatedVehicles fittable on its Inspector USV range:
The Seascan, a retrievable high performance ROV to carry out mine identification.
The K-Ster C ROV,
which is guided towards Mines, IEDs, EODs laid or moored on the
seafloor before neutralizing them with a highly efficient shaped charge.
K-Ster C
K-Ster C is an efficient lightweight expendable ROV designed for underwater mine disposal missions. By remotely operating from a safe distance, K-Ster C effectively neutralizes sea mines, minimizing risks to personnel and assets.
Seascan, a lightweight self-propelled ROV, boasts unparalleled hovering capability and stability, even in turbulent waters. Equipped with high-resolution video camera and a reacquisition sonar, Seascan is dedicated to underwater mine identification, enabling long-range operations in challenging maritime environments
Designed to counter the most sophisticated sea mines while ensuring crew safety by keeping them out of harm's way.
Advanced & safe Mine Countermeasure capability
High precision and efficiency
Offers precise identification and disposal capabilities.
High precision and efficiency
Versatile deployment options
Can be operated from vessels of opportunity, specialized ships, USVs, or from traditional Mine Countermeasures vessels, using dedicated Launch and Recovery System (LARS) for SeaScan or a canister for K-Ster-C.
Versatile deployment options
Auto navigation capabilities
To simplify the task of the operator and improve mission efficiency, Exail MIDS vehicles already integrate auto-depth and auto-track modes intended to automatize ROV’s path to reach the minefield area, using previous cartography data.
Auto navigation capabilities
Proven reliability
Exail leverages several decades on uncrewed systems. The MIDS system is a reliable and sea proven solution in service with several navies.
Proven reliability
Integration with UMIS system
Seamlessly interfaces with Exail's Unmanned MCM Integrated Systems, thanks to a single common command and control system.
