PM Gyro Fibers

PM Coils
In a fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG), the quality and consistent performance of polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber coils are critical to achieving high-precision navigation. As the core sensing element of the gyroscope, the coil directly influences the system’s sensitivity, bias stability, and overall accuracy. Exail’s PM coils are expertly designed and manufactured to meet the most demanding application requirements. Each coil is tailored to specific customer specifications — from fiber type and length to winding technique and mechanical design — ensuring optimal integration and performance.
Spun Fibers
Exail’s spun polarization-maintaining optical fibers, designed for 1310 nm and 1550 nm applications, ensure circular polarization preservation with minimized sensitivity to thermal and vibrational variations. Ideally suited for high-sensitivity Fiber-Optic Current Sensors (FOCS), these fibers deliver exceptional responsiveness and precision. A proprietary elliptical core design drastically reduces the temperature dependence of FOCS systems, enabling reliable performance in demanding environments.
PM Fiber Current Sensors
Exail PM Fibers for Current Sensors feature advanced polarization-maintaining fibers specifically designed for Fiber-Optic Current Sensors (FOCS). When combined with Exail’s spun fibers, they offer the ideal solution for building delay lines, feeder lines to the measurement unit or modulation component, as well as integrated quarter-wave plates.
Polarizing Fibers
Exail’s Polarizing (PZ) fiber, featuring a specialized waveguide design and optimized glass composition, rapidly suppresses all polarization states except the guided one. With a broad polarizing window, low attenuation, and a high extinction ratio (≥ 30 dB) across multiple wavelengths, PZ fibers excel in applications such as quantum optics, cold atom experiments, all-fiber polarizers, fiber-optic current sensors, and gyroscopes. Exail also offers ready-to-use polarizing solutions based on PZ fibers.
Standard PM Fibers
Exail offers a selection of standard PM fibers covering wavelengths from 350 nm to 2300 nm, featuring a 125 µm cladding diameter. These fibers provide high birefringence, excellent polarization-maintaining properties, low attenuation, and strong resistance to solarization. Customized coatings and wavelengths are available upon request. They are widely used in applications such as coherent beam delivery, delay lines, diode and modulator pigtails, fiber optic sensors, gyroscopes, instrumentation, Lyot depolarizers, and other polarization-sensitive components.
