For decades scientists have been using water samplers, mounted on ROV’s or on other underwater structures, but recovery of underwater solid core samples (such as coral, sediments, fauna fragments..) has so far required heavy equipment which restricted its installation to heavy duty ROVs.
ECA Group thus developed a unique system, operational up to 1000m mounted on a single compact skid, incorporating:
A lightweight and very compact 5 function electric manipulator arm- A 6 compartment telescopic receiver, protected under a polycarbonate cover
- Its own buoyancy blocks.
The ROV is equipped with a 7 function telemetry unit which, beyond the arm control, has 2 spare functions devoted to the compartment drawer extension and withdrawal movements.
The neutral weight skid, of compact dimensions, can be attached under any type of ROV, even of small size.

A system already in use in Monaco
The first system has been successfully installed on an ECA Group H800-1000 ROV that has been delivered a few months ago to the The Monaco Oceanography Institute.
