A white paper has been released as an introduction to the benefits of using static converters based on SiC technology.

High performance, low noise submarine converters: SiC technology

One of the major issues for submarines is acoustic discretion. Noise in submarines is partially produced by converters. Converters perform their function through the use of electronic commutation, which by nature creates noise

These provide better switching performance than Silicon (Si) components and lead to a reduction of losses. This technology gives birth to new opportunities such as reducing the size of the cooling system and increasing  the switching frequency. These factors play a major role in submarine applications where compactness and high acoustic discretion are of key importance.

Furthermore, to maximise the potential of the SiC technology, ECA Group have provided a clear demonstration in the white paper that a dedicated driver is essential for managing  static and dynamic driver behaviours.
