Inertial navigation for launch vehicles
Hybrid navigation solution
Powering reliable Inertial Navigation for launch vehicles
In the demanding launcher environment, Exail’s Inertial Navigation System (INS) delivers superior performance through a hybrid architecture that optimizes GNSS, Fiber-Optic Gyroscopes, and accelerometers. Built on decades of expertise, this proven, robust, and reliable solution has been onboard all Ariane 5 launches since 2020 and is now equipping Ariane 6.
Features
State-of-the-art Exail FOG & accelerometers (in-house components)
1 embedded GNSS receiver
A damped structure to withstand the harshest environments
A hybrid navigation algorithm designed to get the most out of the GNSS and inertial sensors in a high vibration environment
A fast and reliable alignment process
Can be accompanied by a navigation simulator (optional)
Robustness and High Performance
Exail's Inertial Navigation System (INS) is engineered to perform under the most extreme conditions encountered by launchers. Capable of withstanding intense vibrations (27 grms random) and shock, the system maintains high performance over a wide range of flight conditions, including high jerk and quick attitude changes. Designed to endure vacuum environments, significant temperature variations, and extremely high velocities, this INS showcases the precision and durability of Exail’s Fiber-Optic Gyroscope (FOG) and accelerometer technologies.
Proven Reliability for Space Launchers
The INS features a damped structure designed to endure challenging conditions, complemented by a hybrid navigation algorithm and a reliable alignment process. With 20 years of experience in the space industry, this robust system has demonstrated its effectiveness on Ariane 5 since 2020 and continues to support Ariane 6 from 2024. It is engineered to handle the demanding environments of space launchers with ease and reliability.
